History and development

The war years
Cellini's roots go back to 1925, when Amleto Pieri began working as a broker for green coffee on the Italian market. His son, Sergio Pieri, continued his father's work as a coffee roaster. As a connoisseur of the espresso tradition and quality, within a few years he assumed a leading role in supplying Tuscany's gastronomical trade.
The foundation stone
The rest of the family stays in Livorno and in 1946 Amleto decides to start his own roasting company, only the second in the whole city. Sergio directs the whole operation from Bologna. His grandpa, Amleto, takes care of the work to be done in Livorno: first off, he obtains the license to open the business. And so Torrefazione Columbia was born, with its first Livorno-based roastery at the end of via Buontalenti, later expanding to a warehouse in via Calzabigi.
The company grows
In 1959, the first roasting was joined by the one in Viale Ugo Conti. The business grows and Columbia coffee is increasingly appreciated throughout Tuscany. A positive period for the whole family abruptly interrupted by the illness and death of Sergio. The children decide not only to keep the business going, but to make it grow and expand.
An important turning point
It is 1990 when the family has the opportunity to take over the Ekaf of Genoa, the largest roaster in Liguria, owner of the Eureka and Filicori brands, and do not miss it: managing such a large and rooted business, active in the whole north-central area, it represents a unique opportunity.
The brand is born
In 1996, from the merger of Columbia with two other historical brands also leading the bar sector in Italy, Filicori born in Bologna in 1883 and Eureka born in Genoa in 1933, the Cellini project was born. The subsequent choice to merge into the other historical brands is supported by communication tools that aim to make the values underlying the activity of the Pieri family known. The Cellini brand must be protected and managed with care, because it becomes representative of the company's production philosophy.
The changing demands of the company
After almost ten years of work under the guidance of the Pieri family, Ekaf reaches its maximum production capacity. The Italian espresso in the world is increasingly known and the Cellini brand becomes synonymous with quality, coming to compete with the most famous Italian brands on an international level. The need for a new establishment becomes urgent. In 2005 the new Genoa Bolzaneto plant is completed.
La vita. La passione.
The experiences of the direct and indirect past, rather than representing a brake on development, have been a springboard for a new innovative spirit which the women and men who worked and work with Cellini have brought with them. This has increased the quality of their work as part of a project for which it was worth working with passion and interest and the slogan "Cellini. The life. The Passion "was born, in fact, with the intention of representing this state of mind.
